Yellow-edged lyretail, deadly or harmless?

The news reported on a chinese eatery in Tsukiji fish market selling potentially poisonous yellow-edged lyretail fish (Called Harahata in Jap) to 6 people.

But see, the thing is that the fish can be potentially harmful but not all are. So this upset many in the fishing industry, telling the mass media ‘Hey, you dont ruin our business with rumours leh!’

Here’s comment from Miyako City fishing vessel’s head, Suzuki Kazumori:

“Harahata is a tasty fish that can be found in plenty in places like Okinawa. The news made it look like a deadly poisonous fish but it is actually top grade fish that can be eaten as Sashimi or boiled with soy sauce!

The fish is only poisonous if it eats a poisonous crab! But you can easily spot the poisonous ones as it will have black spots on it meaning it has turned poisonous after eating the crab.

Well, there are so many dangerous things in Tokyo, you don’t necessarily have to beware of all Harahatas because not all are deadly!”

Watching the following news report, it seems like they are really making a mountain out of a molehill. They should at least say not all yellow-edged lyretail fish are poisonous and the one in the report doesnt seem to have the black spots to indicate that it might be poisonous right?
